Dr McKenzie is originally from Savannah, Georgia. He attended Medical School at Mercer University School of Medicine where he was number one in his medical school class and student body president.

Following medical school, he completed his Radiation Oncology residency at the University of Cincinnati. While there he also obtained a Masters in Healthcare Administration and was Chief Resident.

He then returned to Savannah and practiced for 13 years at a regional cancer center serving southeastern Georgia and coastal South Carolina. While there he served as the Gynecologic Brachytherapy Programmatic Advisor, Cancer Liaison Physician and Interim Medical Director of the cancer center. While doing so he was a top accruer to clinical trials and a regional expert in gynecologic brachytherapy.

Following multiple visits to Alaska, Dr McKenzie became drawn to the people, culture and environment of Alaska. Reminding him of his hardworking, rural upbringing he chose to relocate with his family to Alaska. He looks forward to serving residents of Alaska and aiding them through their cancer journey.

He treats cancers of all types and has particular skill in cancers of the head and neck, lung, gastrointestinal system, prostate and gynecologic organs. He has extensive experience in brachytherapy, stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS).

Outside of work Dr McKenzie enjoys spending time with his family outdoors. He and his wife Ellie have four children. Whether fishing, hunting, hiking or skiing they enjoy all outdoor pursuits. They are also frequently accompanied by their two pudelpointers, Peat and Sage.
